Wednesday Word: Dreams

We all have hopes and dreams. When we verbalize them, they tend to become reality. Sharing our hopes and dreams with another connects us as we’ve shared an intimate part of ourselves. Relationship building with families can be as simple as asking, “What are your hopes and dreams for your child?” I have found that, when asked, most families are surprised. Of course, they have hopes and dreams for their child, but no one has cared enough or has taken the time to ask about them. The replies have been as varied as “to be happy,” “independence,” “to do well in school,” and “to be confident and fulfilled.” I tell families to talk about their dreams with their children, and together they can make their dreams come true. What is imagined can become reality.

In loving memory of Gryphon House author Leanne Grace, MEd, we are sharing pieces of her inspirational writing every Wednesday. Leanne was the director of professional development at Hildebrandt Learning Centers and a lifelong advocate for early childhood education.  She inspired the early childhood community to prepare children as lifelong learners with her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. One person can make a difference, and Leanne did just that. She will be sorely missed.
